Seven days is enough to hit Rajasthan's golden triangle — Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur — without feeling rushed. Here's how to do it right.
Fly into Jaipur and spend your first morning at the Amber Fort, a stunning hilltop palace that rewards early arrivals with golden light and fewer crowds. Afternoon is for the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal — don't just photograph the facade; walk inside for the best views over the bazaar. Spend your second day at Jantar Mantar and the local markets of Johari Bazaar, where block-print textiles and blue pottery make for exceptional souvenirs.
Take the morning train or a private car to Jodhpur (roughly 5–6 hours). The Blue City rewards a slow afternoon wander through its old town lanes, where indigo-washed houses tumble down the hillside beneath the colossal Mehrangarh Fort. Climb the fort at sunset for views that justify every photograph you'll take.
Mehrangarh deserves a full morning — its museum houses one of India's finest royal collections, and the audio guide is genuinely excellent. In the afternoon, hire a cycle-rickshaw for a tour of the clock tower market, sample the local mirchi vada (stuffed chilli fritters), and end at Jaswant Thada, the marble memorial that glows ethereally at dusk.
Drive or fly to Udaipur, arguably Rajasthan's most romantic city. Day 5 is for the City Palace — the largest palace complex in Rajputana — and an evening boat ride on Pichola Lake as the sun dips behind the Aravalli Hills. Day 6 is for Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace) at sunrise, the folk art museum at Bagore ki Haveli, and a slow dinner on a rooftop overlooking the lake.
Fly home from Udaipur airport, which has connections to Delhi and Mumbai. If time permits, spend your final morning at the Shilpgram craft village on the outskirts of town — a living museum of rural Rajasthani arts — before heading to the airport. Seven days is tight for Rajasthan, but this route gives you the essential architecture, colour, and cuisine without exhausting yourself.
