About This Tour

Hemkund Sahib is one of the most physically demanding yet spiritually rewarding Sikh pilgrimages, set beside a glacial lake at 4,329m in the Himalayas, associated with Guru Gobind Singh's meditation in a previous life as described in the Dasam Granth. The trek passes through Govindghat and Ghangaria, and can be combined with a visit to the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its alpine blooms.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Dehradun/Rishikesh

Arrive and transfer to hotel. Evening visit to Laxman Jhula and the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan. Overnight in Rishikesh.

Day 2: Rishikesh to Joshimath

Long scenic drive to Joshimath (approx. 250 km / 9-10 hrs) along the Alaknanda River valley, passing Devprayag and Rudraprayag, two of the sacred river confluences (panch prayag) of the Garhwal Himalayas. Overnight in Joshimath.

Day 3: Joshimath to Govindghat to Ghangaria

Morning drive to Govindghat (approx. 25 km / 1 hr), then begin the trek (approx. 14 km, moderate) along the Pushpawati and Lakshman Ganga rivers to Ghangaria, the base camp for both Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers. Overnight in Ghangaria.

Day 4: Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and back

Trek (approx. 6 km one-way, steep and strenuous, gaining over 1,300m) to Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara, set beside a glacial lake at 4,329m and ringed by seven Himalayan peaks. After darshan and time by the lake, trek back down to Ghangaria. Overnight in Ghangaria.

Day 5: Valley of Flowers (optional) or rest day

Optional day trek (approx. 8 km round trip, moderate) into the Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its meadows of rare Himalayan alpine flowers, best seen between July and September. Alternatively, a rest day in Ghangaria. Overnight in Ghangaria.

Day 6: Ghangaria to Govindghat to Joshimath

Morning trek back down to Govindghat and drive to Joshimath. Afternoon at leisure or a visit to the Narsingh Temple. Overnight in Joshimath.

Day 7: Joshimath to Rishikesh

Long drive back to Rishikesh (approx. 250 km / 9-10 hrs). Evening at leisure. Overnight in Rishikesh.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to Dehradun airport/railway station for onward/international flight connection.
