Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Guwahati

Arrive Guwahati and transfer to hotel. Evening visit to Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill, one of the most significant Shakti Peeth temples, overlooking the Brahmaputra River. Overnight in Guwahati.

Day 2: Guwahati to Kaziranga

Morning drive to Kaziranga (approx. 220 km / 5-6 hrs), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceros. Overnight near Kaziranga National Park.

Day 3: Kaziranga

Early morning elephant-back safari through the park's tall grasslands, followed by a jeep safari deeper into the park to spot rhinos, wild elephants, deer, and, with luck, tigers. Afternoon visit to a local Assamese tea estate. Overnight near Kaziranga.

Day 4: Kaziranga to Shillong

Morning drive to Shillong (approx. 280 km / 7-8 hrs), the hill-station capital of Meghalaya. Evening walk around Umiam Lake, framed by pine-covered hills. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 5: Shillong

Morning visit to Shillong Peak for panoramic views over the city and surrounding hills. Afternoon visit to the Ward's Lake and Don Bosco Museum, which showcases the culture of North East India's many tribes. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 6: Shillong to Cherrapunji

Morning drive to Cherrapunji/Sohra (approx. 55 km / 2 hrs), one of the wettest places on Earth. Visit Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall, and the Mawsmai Cave, a well-lit limestone cave suitable for casual exploration. Overnight in Cherrapunji.

Day 7: Cherrapunji — Living Root Bridge

Full day trekking to Nongriat village (moderate, involving several thousand steps down and back up) to see the famous double-decker living root bridge, grown over generations from the roots of rubber fig trees by the Khasi people. Swim in the natural rock pools nearby before the return trek. Overnight in Cherrapunji.

Day 8: Cherrapunji to Dawki via Mawlynnong

Morning drive to Mawlynnong (approx. 80 km / 2.5 hrs), widely cited as one of Asia's cleanest villages, with its own living root bridge and bamboo "sky view" tower. Continue to Dawki (approx. 25 km / 1 hr) for a boat ride on the Umngot River, renowned for water so clear that boats appear to float in mid-air. Overnight in Dawki/Shillong.

Day 9: Departure

Morning drive back to Guwahati (approx. 175-250 km / 5-6 hrs depending on overnight stop) for onward/international flight connection.
